Why this app exists

Less searching. More time for the class.

Attendance OCR was built for a Virginia Commonwealth University class that uses paper attendance sheets. Each page has a bin, and each student’s attendance needs to be entered beside their name in a Google Sheet.

Instead of working through the papers and pressing Ctrl+F for every student, the app suggests a roster match and carries over the page’s bin. You check the name before confirming it. The app then saves the attendance to the sheet.

It helps with the repetitive part. You stay in charge of the final record.

How it works

One familiar routine.

01

Choose your files

Sign in with Google. Select the shared roster sheet and an attendance PDF from Drive.

02

Review the names

Set the class, date and page bin. Check each suggested name and correct it when needed.

03

Check the save

Wait for Google saving to finish, then check the date column in your sheet.

Your files, your Google account

Access to the files you choose.

The app uses Google’s file picker to open selected PDFs and update your selected sheet. It does not request access to your entire Drive.

Handwriting recognition runs in memory on your computer. Attendance and recovery progress are saved to the selected Google Sheet. Account tokens, settings and the recognition model stay on the computer. Read the details.

Getting started

Ask your course coordinator for the Windows 64-bit installer and access to the shared attendance folder. This website does not upload or process attendance records.
